• Project Abstract:

In a world driven by speed and materialistic gains people can feel pressured and drained. Legenda Aims to rejuvenate the people and the visitors of port said city by giving them a chance to take a break from the world and embark on a journey to discover the hero within. In this project I’m trying to Explore the possibilities of Architecture itself being a media. Portraying a story about normal people struggling just to make their life and that they should be proud of themselves just for being a common hero trying to make a life. I tell this story through exploiting the nature, landscape and Architecture to create a mood and an experience that would lead the user to ask questions and discover this story.

This Idea of Making the project address this story of a common hero came from exploring the site and its context of the city. From its beginning Port said was a cosmopolitan city hosting a large diversity of Ethnicities and Cultures melted together. It has also its share of glory and pain through history. Since it’s the entrance of the Suez Canal it was the stage for a lot of events and wars. We can say that it’s a heroic city.

Looking At port said of today you can find that this once proud and free city is not as it used to be… The unique Architecture and culture are fading and degrading, due to recent events the city became isolated from the rest of Egypt, and the folklore is facing the threat of being lost and the residents have an identity crisis. Like the rest of Egypt, the city has a problem with public open spaces And Like the rest of the world, the city is threatened by global warming. and Our site lays at the continental edge of Africa at the entrance of the Suez Canal surrounded by rich context and ambitious plans for the future. And it can literally be called at the center of the world. So, the best way to address all those conditions is by telling their story in its simplest form by focusing on anthropology and folklore.

The project have 3 Main players:

The library -which specializes in collecting and documenting the folklore of port said and the world- is the main element -also works as a symbol of the story of humanity itself and us living together as a single hero looking for knowledge to make a better life-.

The Memorial park where 142 Memorials tell the stories of common heroes surrounded by nature as a way of saying that there are more heroes growing and we don’t know about them yet.

The Forum of human development where we find a Headquarters Sector for NGOs running the place, a Media center, an Expo, a Motel, a public theatre, a town hall, a publishing house and an orientation center for tourists. All of them under the podium connected together with the library through the path of ordeals when the user discovers those elements. And connected with the memorial Experiential park through circulation linked with 5 organic forms cladded with a reflecting material to make the user see a reflection of himself walking among the memorials of common heroes as one of them.
